J U P I T E R I N S A G I T T A R I U S
Note: Jupiter will only be in Sagittarius for the first 2 days of 1996. Hence, this is here for completeness.
Jove is another name for Jupiter -- a jovial person is a person who has a hearty, joyous humor. People with Jupiter strong in their chart (a lot of aspects to Jupiter or a lot of planets in Sagittarius or the ninth house) are optimistic, jovial, growth-oriented, open, and reasonable. When they have expanded egos, Jupiterians can also be overly optimistic, greedy, snobbish, and condescending. Jupiter people want to expand their knowledge, grow as people, be humorous, and remain open to new experience. They often spend time planning the future and trying to extrapolate where things are going. The two words that Jupiterians use are: "more" and "better".
On a broader social context, Jupiter rules the ups and downs of the economy. When Jupiter is well aspected or in a friendly sign, the economy gets a boost. For example, in a surprising number of cases, Jupiter in Virgo represents a time of economic difficulties, while Jupiter in Libra starts on the road to an improving economy, and Jupiter in Scorpio initiated the actual transition to the new economic state.
Jupiter represents the temper of the time--what prospers. Since what is prospering, growing, and expanding is where the "juice" resides, Jupiter represents the upbeat energy of that time. People are open to the sign that Jupiter is traversing.
Jupiter is the energy to improve the situation. What is improved is represented by the sign that Jupiter is transiting. Since Jupiter changes sign once a year, what people work to improve in a given year is represented by Jupiter.
When Jupiter left Scorpio and moved into Sagittarius the world became a lighter and more humorous place.
People look into foreign and extraterrestial affairs more. Jupiter will be in Sagittarius from December 9, 1994 to

For each of the one-year periods I have placed some representative events for the Jupiter in Sagittarius "energy". As you can see, these were times when people were more focused on world events, aircraft, or space. The books talked about positivity, or foreign travels, or righting wrongs. These were times of crusading; when people felt they could make a difference. A certain warmth pervaded the media (Pennies from Heaven, South Pacific, MASH, even Hill Street Blues). Art is more exotic, "foreign", or humorous.
People opened up more to the foreign, what is outside their normal limits (so both foreign travel and space exploration). Relationships between feuding governments or religious groups are eased. The times have an up beat or optimistic tone. There is a "country" or "cowboy" flavor to music and humor (Will Rogers, Old Cow Hand, etc). Also, these were times when new forms of media were invented or launched (long-playing records and CDs). Books and people tend to be uplifting and inspirational (How to Win Friends and Influence People, Knute Rockne, Miracle Worker, Hign Hopes). Racial tensions are addressed and worthy people from outside the "mainstream" are recognized (Harold Washington, Martin Luther King Jr Holiday, Cry, the Beloved Country, etc).
